ALTERNATING RHYTHM WITH APPS
Alternating Rhythm describes an artwork that contains a repetition of two or more components that are used interchangeably. Some alternating rhythm examples include alternating light and dark colors or placing various shapes and/or colors in a repeating pattern.
What is repetition, pattern, and rhythm? How do they relate to each other? Repetition refers to one object or shape repeated; pattern is a combination of elements or shapes repeated in a recurring and regular arrangement; rhythm--is a combination of elements repeated, but with variations.
Directions
On a sheet of practice paper draw out 6 examples with phones using regular rythem.
Draw each example in a box so you can see how the composition works with the entire page.
Understand what alternating rythem is. (definition is at the top of the page)
Choose your favorite apps.
Sketch an alternating rythem composition with two or more apps.
Alternate colors in a repeating pattern.
Alternate proportions of the same shape in a repeating pattern.
Alternate vary the direction of the pattern
Design using composition techniques cropping, details, and proportions.
Once you have your design sketches completed begin.
Use a ruler to draw your apps then round over the edges.
Use the entire page for your composition.
You may use pencil, colored pencil, or pen.
You must demonstrate one of the following; shading, flat color, cross hatching, or stippling.
Post your preliminary sketches, research, artwork, reflection and grade on your art blog.

1. Student successfully demonstrated the ability to design their composition. ( 6 small sketches on one sheet of paper)
2. Student successfully demonstrated the ability to use alternating rythem in their composition.
3. Student successfully demonstrated one of the following; shading, flat color, cross hatching, or stippling.
4. Student successfully demonstrated using the entire page.
5. Student successfully demonstrated composition techniques cropping, details, and proportions.
6. Student successfully demonstrated the ability to use craftsmanship.
Grading scale
A full point is earned by meeting each requirement on the rubric. There will be 6 requirements for each art project. A half point (.5) is earned by attempting and not meeting the requirement. Zero points are earned for an unsatisfactory attempt meeting the requirements. The grading scale starts at 100 and ends at 50. I gave you 50 points so do your best.
